Ever since we were founded in 2002, we’ve provided the platforms that enable our customers to deliver ground-breaking digital and enterprise services.
Discover how we’ve grown to become a top-50 G-Cloud supplier, trusted by Government to deliver key parts of its digital transformation.
Founded by a team of technology entrepreneurs as a co-location business, we opened our first data centre in Corsham, Wiltshire, next to the Ministry of Defence. Thanks to the quality network connectivity and security at the site, we launched a partnership with Vodafone to provide a managed platform for other businesses to deliver innovative mobile services using its network.
We achieved our ISO 9001 certification for quality management.
We doubled the size of our data centre offering by building a second facility in Corsham. Much of the new capacity was to house the disaster recovery site for a critical emergency services communications system, which remained in use until 2015.
Following a management buy-in, Phil Dawson became MDS’s new Managing Director.
With more customers coming on board, we opened a new data centre in Crawley, West Sussex, to provide geographically separated dual-site capability.
As well as achieving our ISO 27001 information security certification, we hit revenues of over £1M for the first time.
Ahead of its time, we built our first cloud environment, offering shared, virtualised infrastructure, servers and storage to our customer base. We also achieved our ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 18001 (health and safety) certifications.
With cloud growing in popularity, we launched our partnership with UKCloud, to provide the public sector with full management services for the assured cloud infrastructure. We quickly became one of Skyscape’s largest partners and remain so to this day. 2012 also saw us become a founding member of the Government’s G-Cloud framework, where we’ve since grown to be a top-50 supplier.
We won a major contract to manage the platform that underpins the critical operations of numerous UK local authorities. The success of our work meant this deal was extended for a further two years in 2016. The cherry on top of a great year for MDS was being selected to be part of the high-profile Digital Exemplar programme working with both the Home Office and the Rural Payments Agency.
We began the migration of our co-location customers to new, state-of-the-art data centres at Spring Park, Corsham and Cody Park in Farnborough. We completed this migration in 2015.
This was an exciting year, as we started working with Genomics England on the pioneering 100,000 Genomes Project. Our revenue hit £5M for the first time, we became a founder member of the Technology Services framework, and expanding staff numbers saw us outgrow our old headquarters and move to state-of-the-art offices in Chippenham, Wiltshire.
To finance our continuing growth, MDS was acquired by Assured Digital Group. Karen Young, having previously been Head of Sales and Marketing and then General Manager, took over as Managing Director. We were also one of the founding members of the Government’s Digital Outcomes and Specialists framework.
